Description
The Atlantic side of the Florida Keys is suffering from heavy sargassum (brown algae/ seaweed), highlighted in this photograph by the elimination of the blues and greens of the skies, sea, and plants. It's actually an important part of the ecosystem, providing an essential fish habitat for many species when occurring naturally out at sea. However, when ocean currents bring it to the shores, the decaying matter can remove oxygen from the water resulting in harm to the fish, seagrasses, and turtle nests.
Shot at Bahai Honda State Park in the Florida Keys.
